Keeping Your Luxury Watch in Good Condition
At Goldtime watch repairs we are always asked so many questions about maintaining expensive watches and vintage watches such as Rolex, Omega, Tudor and so on we always want you to get the best out of your watch and maintain it to its full potential. So here’s some insight into maintaining and keeping your watch in the best condition. Your watch can last years and years if you maintain and look after it properly , it’s important to get your watches serviced regularly, and some Rolexes can go up to two decades or more with the right care. Most expensive watches can be repaired but it’s important to keep your watches component rust free.
How Often Does My Watch Need To Be Cleaned?
It’s important to clean your watch at least once a month. This can simply be done with a microfibre cloth and a touch of non abrasive cleaning solution or washing up liquid, you should never clean the crown or exposed parts with any water. After cleaning your watch it’s important that you store it properly , we recommend storing it in the original box it was bought in, if you're a collector we suspect you have multiple pieces in your collection. You don’t want dust getting into the movement or winder as this can affect your watches overall performance.
How Do I Look After A Vintage Watch?
Always handle your watch with care if your watch is vintage it’s probably not as hard wearing as more up to date models. Wearing vintage watches everyday is not advised but if you wish to do so then there is nothing stopping you although if any parts on your watch break it’s not 100% guaranteed the parts to fix it will be on hand. Cleaning a vintage watch should be left to an expert they specialise in and best results will be achieved. Vintage watches usually have previous owners so it’s important to get them serviced every 2 years as they are more likely to be damaged. You can clean your vintage watch gently with a toothbrush and a touch of washing up liquid. Many brands do not clean or service vintage watches they specialise in making their own models more modern and sustainable.
How Do I Deal With Watch Scratches?
If your watch is scratched then it can be brought back to life depending on the type of scratches if the scratches aren’t deep then cover the parts of your watch that aren’t scratched you can try and bring them up with a tiny bit of toothpaste or polish of your choice use the polish cloth in circular motions until the scratches slowly disappear, unfortunately if the scratches are too deep or unfixable by you then the only option then is to have the glass replaced by an expert.
