Avoid Rice and Heat
Which many devices people suggest rice and heat to try and dry them out, however when it comes to watches, this should be avoided. This is because if you try to evaporate the water in the watch, you could actually cause further damage to the other parts, this could be cause either by the evaporation process or by the heat you apply to it. As a watch is made up of many little pieces, it's important to leave them well alone when water damage occurs, as the evaporation process could cause the mechanisms in a watch to seize.
Avoid Pressing or Turning Aything
Although your first though might be to try and stop the watch from ticking or to pull out the stopper, don't. It's impossible to tell where water has gotten into without an assessment, so if you pull the stopper or push any buttons, then you might push water deeper into the watch or damage that specific part of the watch. Water is difficult to see, so if your watch comes into contact with it and it shouldn't, then try to keep the watch as still as possible until you can get it to a repair specialist for the brand of watch you have.
Don't Wear Your Watch
You'd be surprised how many people don't take their actual watch off straight away, and it's important that you do. Continuing to wear your watch will end up essentially shaking it and if it's mechanical then the parts will continue to spin, as you wear it. Any movement to the watch that isn't necessary to remove it from your wrist should be avoided, this means if it has suspected water damage you should remove it from your wrist.
