Common Signs Your Watch Is Broken

1. Loose parts inside your watch

It’s pretty common for parts inside your watch to become loose or unattached especially in larger timepieces, parts can also become loose should you knock it against something, but manufacturer faults can also occur over time. Should you notice any part of your watch's dial or face become loose you should stop using your watch straight away and take it to a specialist. Keep in mind damage caused by dropping or impact is not covered by your warranty.

2. Loose hands

Hands becoming loose on a person's watch is not uncommon and can seem like a pretty easy fix but this isn’t always the case.If left long enough this can cause other problems such as other hands or pieces to block up. Hands can also stop your watch functioning properly and they may even need to be completely replaced. If the problem is a manufacturer's problem then it can usually be fixed or replaced under warranty.

3. Links or strap is broken

The watch strap or links becoming detached is not uncommon and can become annoying especially if the pin between your strap and face is loose or keeps popping off, looking for it can be tedious as it’s like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Loose straps and pins can cause your watch to become loose should it fall and become damaged due to your own carelessness you will not be covered by your guarantee or insurance.

4. Damage To The Glass Face

Not only does the glass being damaged look awful but it usually isn’t covered by warranty unfortunately with any brand. It’s important to keep in mind that deep scratches and cracks can turn into a bigger problem and leaving it too long can eventually cause damage to the movement or pieces that make up the face of your watch if your watch is waterproof this could also be affected.

5. Moisture 

Moisture can be a nightmare, but in some cases it can be less serious either way it doesn’t look good and becomes annoying. Did you leave your watch on whilst swimming or not close a crown properly? Not all watches are water resistant or fully water resistant, or it could be a manufacturers fault either way it’s important to get the problem sorted. You may find that it’s just a little condensation that can be caused by warm air hitting your cold watch. In this case your watch should be fine after a few hours.

6. Loose or Broken Crown

It’s quite common for the crown to become damaged or broken , it can simply be caught through putting your hands in and out of your pockets. If your crown is loose or broken DO NOT go near water be sure to take it to your nearest watch specialist as soon as possible.

7. Lagging

If your watch lags or suddenly starts to lose a lot of time, you may find the strokes become irregular. It's possible that your battery needs to be replaced. If your watch has stopped, try replacing the battery. If this doesn’t work then take it to your nearest watch specialist there could be a bigger problem or a manufacturer's fault.

8. It Just Doesn't Run Right

The type of watch you have depends on the problem as manual and automatic watches sometimes have different parts and runs differently. You may find your watch starts running too slow or too fast. This can be caused by the mechanism being broken or could be something as simple as a battery change. If you’re having problems then you should visit your local watch specialist.

9. You Can't Set The Date

You know how to set the date on your watch?
Simply pull out the crown to the second position to set the date, avoid setting the date between 10 and two as your watch might change the date automatically , make sure you set the date before 10AM or after 2AM. Your watch will change the date every 24 hours, if you find it starts changing at different times 12AM instead of 12PM you may be able to solve this by turning your watch forward by 12 hours. If this doesn’t help and you turn the crown and nothing happens this is an indication you need to visit your local watch specialist.
